# Adding properties to data items

After you have [created a **Data item**](https://docs.triggre.com/features/data/creating-data-items) you can start adding **Properties** to that **Data item**.

## How to add Properties to Data items

1. Expand the **Data item** by clicking it and click the **Add property button** :

2. In the dialog that opens, select the type of **Property** you want to add:  

3. Depending on the type of **Property** you choose, you will have to specify more details (e.g. the number of decimals for a number):  

4. Give your **Property** a name:  

> Tip: Use a singular noun for the name of your data items, e.g. _Project_ or _Tax return_
