I’m currently working on a monthly report in which I include a pie chart. I’ve noticed that part of the chart is being cut off, as you can see in the attached screenshot.
I’ve already tried placing the chart inside a column layout and adjusting the left and right PDF margins to 10mm, but the text labels are still being cut off. This makes the chart difficult to read.
This is a very annoying situation that we don’t have complete control over. Let me explain in more detail.
We have looked into this problem in a lot of detail last year. Similar problems occur in applications, if the text is long and the chart distribution is a certain way.
The main issue is in the library we use for rendering charts. We looked into other libraries, but they have the same issue.
From an implementation point of view this is a hard issue to solve and it seems that all chart suppliers run into the same tradeoff: make the chart tiny, or cut off the text.
We have since applied some changes to settings of this library for rendering in applications. This has limited the number of cases where text gets cut off, but it is not a guarantee.
We will test whether these settings can also be applied to charts in documents, and if they provide the same improvement, add them to a release.
Hopefully this gives a bit more insight into the situation.
